6 Whimsical Ways to Spend Labor Day Weekend
As most Los Angeles residents know from years of practice and never-ending trips to buy sunscreen, there are plenty of sun-soaked days to be had in the months following Labor Day Weekend. For this reason, we’ve decided to compile a list of ways to spend the upcoming holiday that don’t involve schlepping to an over-crowded beach (no offense, Santa Monica) or rooftop pool party (sorry, Skybar at the Mondrian Hotel). From deep-fried Oreos to music and film festivals and a historic baseball team, here are 6 ways to say farewell to the final weeks of summer, L.A.-style.

1. Los Angeles County Fair

When: Sept 1 – 24
Where: The Fairplex in Pomona
Snapshot: Monday, September 1st marks Opening Day for the festive county fair! Refer to this guide to make the most out of your day.

2. The Taste

When: Sept 1 – 3
Where: Paramount Pictures Studios
Snapshot: Be there when the iconic studio lot transforms into the ultimate pop-up and block party replete with food, wine seminars, cooking demos, great spirits and good company.

3. Cinecon Classic Film Festival

When: Aug 31 – Sept 4
Where: The Egyptian Theater Hollywood
Snapshot: Has there ever been a more ideal way to beat the summer heat than by reclining in chair to watch classic movies all day?

4. Made In LA Music & Arts Festival

When: Sept 2 – 3
Where: Golden Road Brewing
Snapshot: This is the beer distillery’s inaugural Labor Day Weekend event dedicated to showcasing artists and vendors from and/or established in Los Angeles. Bonus: attendees can choose one of three charities—Heal The Bay, Wags & Walks, and Light Bringer—to donate a portion of their ticket sales to.

5. 626 Night Market

When: Sept 1 – 3
Where: Santa Anita Park
Snapshot: Now in its 6th season, with a 3-day flagship event at Santa Anita Park, 626 Night Market is the original and largest (over 200 vendors!) Asian-themed night market in the entire United States.

6. Dodgers Baseball

When: Sept 4
Where: Dodger Stadium at 5:10 p.m. PDT
Snapshot: The Dodgers take on the Arizona Diamondbacks just in time for the sun to start setting on the holiday weekend. Don’t miss a chance to witness their historic season—they are even set to break the record for the most wins during the regular season. Not a baseball fan? Both the UCLA Bruins and the USC Trojans play in their respective football season openers over the weekend).
