West Hollywood is a youthful, dynamic neighborhood with a colorful and entertaining heritage. It was founded in 1984 as the 84th city in Los Angeles County. It has a long and illustrious history dating back over 300 years. Gambling was outlawed in the city of Los Angeles in the 1920s, but it was still lawful in Los Angeles County. Due to the fact that West Hollywood was still unincorporated at the time, casinos and nightclubs began to spring up along the Sunset Strip. Although there isn't much gambling these days, West Hollywood retains its brilliant lights and pulsating excitement.
West Hollywood consistently raises the bar for progressive, talented individuals who are at the forefront of trends and new ideas, and who work together as a community in one of the country's most exciting places. Beautiful architectural residences adorn the neighborhood's side streets, in addition to the various housing complexes that dot the area.

West Hollywood Gateway is a small commercial center on the eastern outskirts of West Hollywood, near the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and La Brea Avenue. The block focuses less on fashionable shops and more on practical, everyday shopping and errands.
Traditional steakhouses, New American fare, tapas, sushi, and vegan Mexican are just a few of the eating options available to foodies here. Indulge in some tasty pastries at Bottega Louie or enjoy poolside eating in casual attire at Sunset Tower Bar. The middle section of the avenue is the epicenter of the gay nightlife scene, featuring landmark nightclubs such as The Abbey. The Standard, Andaz, Mondrian, and Chateau Marmont, which is known to be a timeless classic, are all among the hip hotels that flank both sides of the avenue.
Things to Do
Many of Los Angeles' most famous hotels, music venues, and comedy clubs are located in West Hollywood. Runyon Canyon, located nearby, is one of the city's most picturesque walks for inhabitants in need of some fresh air.
There are also a number of events and festivals that happen in and near West Hollywood such as the Halloween Carnaval, where every Halloween, thousands of people dressed in frightening, comical, sensual, and just plain out-of-this-world costumes come on Santa Monica Boulevard for the annual West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval, a one-of-a-kind street celebration. Nearby, the Annual Pride Parade is also held every year for members of the LGBT+ community.
